GREENSBORO, N.C. -- You can call it a fight for bragging rights, but really they all have the same goal to save lives.

Heroes from our local community agencies joined WFMY News 2's Tracey McCain Tuesday on the Good Morning Show to talk about the life-saving blood drive.

Reid McCormick and Jim Albright with Guilford County EMS, Officer T.V. Moore with the Greensboro Police Department and Chief Bill Lentz with Greensboro Fire talked about why people should get involved.

"This event is about a group of individuals who ordinarily give back to the community with their work everyday, and this is a way we can contact the community without being an urgent environment," said McCormick.  "Ordinarily we say if our stuff is in your driveway then you're not having a good day."

The competition is a friendly way for the different agencies to earn some bragging rights but the main goal is to save lives.

"We know there's a need and this will undoubtedly help."

Last year, EMS won the challenge and "we intend to keep it," said McCormick.

But Officer Moore and Chief Lentz encouraged police and fire departments along with community members to help them pull out a win.

You can stop by the American Red Cross on Yanceyville Street in Greensboro or any other blood donation site to give blood through the end of the week.  Just make sure you designate the agency where you want it to count.  The agency with the most pints wins.
