GREENSBORO, N.C. -- US Airways reported on its website a plane from Lynchburg, Va. to Charlotte had to make an emergency landing at PTI in Greensboro around 5:52 a.m. Wednesday.

The carrier said it was diverted because of aircraft maintenance.

The plane did land safely and is being parked for inspecton at gate 40. The airport authority said onboard the small plane--a US Airways Express--were 28 passengers, all of whom are uninjured.

An information officer at PTI told WFMY News 2's Meghann Mollerus all passengers have been rebooked on other flights out of PTI to Charlotte.

Two FAA inspectors are inspecting the plane that made the emergency landing, a procedure FAA said is protocol in emergency landing situations.

A Greensboro police officer said GPD did not receive a call to assist airport police. She said emergency landings happen frequently, and typically, GPD is called in to help with these instances that occur at PTI.
