GREENSBORO, N.C. -- She's been called a trailblazer, educator and community advocate, and WFMY News 2 is proud to call her part of the family.

Longtime anchor Sandra Hughes will be the dinner honoree at the 47th Annual Brotherhood/Sisterhood Citation Award Dinner on Thursday night. The dinner honors local citizens who "embody NCCJ's values and objectives."

The NCCJ of the Piedmont Triad congratulated Hughes on "her courage to stand for change" and her decades worth of efforts to break race barriers.

Hughes started as a reporter at WFMY News 2 in 1972 and her career led her to the anchor's desk before she retired in 2010. She is now teaching journalism courses at NC A&T State University in Greensboro.

The NCCJ uses the Brotherhood/Sisterhood Citation Award dinner as an annual fundraiser. To purchase tickets to the dinner, call (336) 272-0359.
