WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Renowned poet and author Dr. Maya Angelou helped to inspire the young minds of students and faculty at Wake Forest University. On Wednesday, she spoke at an event titled, "Dignity and Respect" on the campus.

The campaign was launched last month by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in an effort to bring the campus together under the central belief that everyone deserves dignity and respect. The "Dignity and Respect Campaign" will be a yearlong effort to unite the campus.

Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, Director of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of African Art and Dr. Edwin G. Wilson, Provost Emeritus at Wake Forest also joined Angelou. Cole and Wilson spoke about what it means to show dignity and respect.
