BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Officials in Burlington are looking into a fire that destroyed three of the city's garbage trucks.

The Times-News of Burlington reports that police said the trucks were destroyed in a fire Thursday night at the Public Works Department's sanitation division.

Police say another three trucks were damaged by smoke and heat.

Burlington Police Capt. Chad Slaughter said a sheriff's deputy had just finished refueling his vehicle  when he saw the garage fire. Slaughter said it took firefighters nearly 40 minutes to put the fire out. No one was injured.

Public Works Director Nolan Kirkman said the three garbage trucks destroyed have an arm that loads garbage into the truck. Kirkman said new trucks of that model are approximately $250,000 each, but the trucks affected by the fire were older.
