Yadkin River Bridge Work, NCDOT
RALEIGH, N.C. -- A bridge dedication is highlighting the end of a project designed to make improvements to Interstate 85 in part of central North Carolina.
Friday's ceremony dedicated the Yadkin River Veterans Memorial Bridge. The Davidson and Rowan County chapters of the American Legion requested the bridge naming, and it was signed into law on June 20, 2012.
The ceremony marks the completion of the I-85 Corridor Improvement Project in Davidson and Rowan counties. Work on the $201.5 million project began in September 2010 and involved widening 7.1 miles of I-85 from north of Long Ferry Road in Rowan County to just north of I-85 Business in Davidson County
The new bridge replaces the old two-lane bridges that crossed the river. The new four-lane bridges include an emergency lane.
