THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- A woman is recovering at a local hospital after she was hit by a train Tuesday afternoon in Thomasville.
Police say the 42-year-old woman was conscious and alert when they arrived at Turner and East Main streets. EMS took her to High Point Regional. Officers say she might have broken her ankle.
Witnesses told first responders the woman tried crossing the tracks even though the gates were lowered and the lights were flashing.
According to police, the passenger train was traveling at nearly 80 m.p.h. from Raleigh to Charlotte.
No other injuries were reported.
