WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police in Winston-Salem say a female teacher is accused of taking indecent liberties with a male student.

Officers say Alexandria Bennett, a teacher at North Forsyth High School has been charged with two counts of Indecent Liberties with a student. Her bond is set at $5,000.

Detectives said their investigation started in October when they first received a report of the incident. No other details were released.

Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools' superintendent Beverly Emory released this statement about the case:

Alexandria Bennett, a former math teacher at North Forsyth High School, was charged today with two counts of indecent liberties with a student. She had been in her second year teaching at North Forsyth and for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.

Superintendent Beverly Emory suspended Bennett without pay in late October after learning of the allegations. The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education approved Bennett's dismissal Tuesday.

A staff member overheard students talking about a possible incident and reported it to administrators. The administrators then reported it to the Winston-Salem Police Department, which conducted the investigation.

"We hold all of our staff to high standards, and this type of behavior will not be tolerated," Emory said. "It does not represent the many teachers who do their jobs well every day."

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Winston-Salem Police at (336) 773-7700 or Crime Stoppers at (336) 727-2800.
