NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. -- On Sunday, firefighter closed their investigation and said the cause can't be determined.
Fire destroyed a North Wilkesboro bowling alley and skating rink Saturday night. It's located at 324 Elkin Highway.
The mayor of North Wilkesboro, Robert Johnson, told WFMY News 2 no one was hurt in the fire that started just after 5:00 p.m. Johnson said more than twenty fire departments responded.
North Wilkesboro Assistant Fire Chief Kipi Hamby said, "On the back, right-hand side of this building, there were two propane heaters. That's where the fire started. We're thinking it was something in that area. Until we get it cooled off and cooled down, so it can be investigated, that's what we're looking at."
Hamby said the bowling alley and skating rink have been popular for more than sixty years. "Up through the years, it has been a hangout in Wilkes County. It's just a sad thing to see it burn," Hamby said.
