PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C. -- School officials say they lifted a lockdown at Westfield Elementary School.

According to the school, law enforcement officers were chasing a suspect near the school early Monday afternoon. They said the man abandoned his motorcycle and ran to a barn across the street from the school.

The school said the students were not in danger, but issued the lockdown as a precaution.

A school spokesperson said law enforcement arrested the suspect.

The school alerted parents about the lockdown through an Alert Now message.

Nobody from Highway Patrol, Mount Airy Police or the Surry County Sheriff's Office were able to provide any additional information.
