RALEIGH, N.C. -- Family members of three people critically injured in a ride mishap at the North Carolina State Fair say they face a long road to recovery.
Anthony Gorham, Kisha Gorham and their 14-year-old son were thrown off the Vortex ride on Oct. 24 when the machine lurched into motion as they tried to get off. The ride's owner and operator face felony assault charges after investigators say key safety equipment was disengaged.
Authorities have been tight-lipped about the family's condition, but a Web page seeking financial help for the Gorhams describes severe injuries including brain, skull, neck and spinal trauma. Family members say they face a long road to recovery that will require several surgeries and intensive rehabilitation. In addition to the injured teen, the couple has two other young children.
