GREENSBORO, N.C. -- On Wednesday, former Guilford County Chairman Skip Alston is expected to announce his future political plans.

A news release says the announcement will focus on the 2014 elections.

The news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. in front of the Old Guilford County Courthouse at 310 W. Market St. in Greensboro.

The news release says, "Our community is under attack in Raleigh, with simultaneous cuts in education and in teaching opportunities, while undermining programs that protect our most vulnerable during times of economic distress."

Alston served five terms on the Guilford County Board of Commissioners; he was chairman for five years. He co-founded the International Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro.
