HIGH POINT, N.C. - A High Point police officer crashed his cruiser after falling asleep at the wheel at the end of his shift Saturday morning. That's according to a High Point Police investigation.
Officer A.D. Dyles crashed his cruiser on U.S. 29/70 South around 6:15 Saturday morning.
Investigators say he veered off the road hitting a guardrail on the bridge over South Main Street. The car caught fire, but police say Dyles was able to escape with a minor hand injury.
Police say he was neither answering a call or in pursuit of another driver at the time of the crash.
An investigation is ongoing.
