FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. -- A firefighter with the Union Cross Fire Department lost his home Saturday to a fire.
Kyle Scott has worked at the station for about eight years. His home caught fire in the evening while his wife, April, and two children were home.
April was about to take her 2-year-old son and 14-year-old daughter to go see Santa and were going to have family night at home. April says when she went to her room to get ready she heard crackling that sounded like fire.
She saw the blaze when she went back to the family room and immediately got her family out of there. She and her children watched their home burn while they stood outside on their lawn.
The family says smoke caused a majority of the damage.
The fire department is accepting donations to help the family, whose home burned so close to Christmas. Donations can be taken to the fire station at 4401 High Point Rd. in Kernersville.
