An officer was shot while responding to a home invasion on Northpoint Drive in Lexington on Dec. 19, 2013.

LEXINGTON, N.C. -- The Davidson County Sheriff's Office says a deputy was shot Thursday morning.

Sheriff David Grice told WFMY News 2 the incident happened while investigating a home invasion. Davidson County 911 Communications says it happened before 7:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Northpoint Drive, off of Highway 150.

In a news conference, Grice said the officer was shot in his foot and has non-life-threatening injuries. At least two other officers were at the home during the shooting. Also, two people were in the home and one person was assaulted. 

Grice initially said the suspect died, but he now says the suspect is alive and EMS is taking the person to an area hospital.
