CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Charlotte fire department says someone stole their Christmas tree while they were fighting a fire that displaced 26 people a week away from Christmas.
According to WBTV, the fire happened Wednesday night in a storage shed at an apartment complex. Firefighters said they fought the fire for more than an hour and stayed at the complex overnight to make sure the fire was out.
No injuries were reported in the fire. Officials say it caused about $250,000 in damage. The Red Cross is helping the 26 people find a place to stay.
Firefighters from Station 23 say buying a tree with their own money, decorating it and placing it outside the station has been a tradition for years.
