GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Some people took advantage of every last minute of the holiday shopping season. Why did people wait until the last minute? WFMY News 2 found the answers.
WFMY News 2 spent the day at Friendly Center in Greensboro asking people why they are shopping at the last minute. Some people said they were from out of town, or they were busy with work.
According to some retail experts, weather has had an impact on shopping. And because the weather has been bad, retailers are doing everything they can to get shoppers in the store to start spending money.
ShopperTrak reports sales were down roughly 3% last week. That follows a 3% drop from the week before that. This is another reason why retailers are pulling out all the stops to lure in last minute shoppers.
With all this said, you don't have to wait until the 26th to get the deals. Amazon.com's "2013 After-Christmas Sale" is already rolling with such offers as 70-percent off on select clothing, shoes, watches and jewelry. Old Navy launched its "After Holiday Sale" on Sunday with markdowns up to 75-percent.
Sales growth this year is likely to be the weakest since 2009.
