  • RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. -- A mother whose two boys died in a mobile home fire is now charged with two counts of Involuntary Manslaughter.

The Randolph County Sheriff's Office says Sherrie Hurley Saunders - previously Sherrie Hurley Trogdon - was arrested Wednesday morning. A grand jury handed down the indictment this week.

In July of 2013, her two boys, 5-year-old Andrew and 3-year-old Logan Trogdon, died after a fire started in the mobile home.

WFMY News 2 has since found out the fire started in a bedroom and they were unable to get out. Investigators said the boys were playing with a cigarette lighter and the way the bedroom door was locked prevented the boys from escaping the fire.

Captain Derrick Hill said, "Death of two young boys, tragic accident, but this was an accident that could have been avoided very easily that morning with just some other steps and change in behavior from Ms. Saunders."

Saunders is in the Randolph County Jail.

WFMY News 2's Liz Crawford spoke to Adam Trogdon, the boys' father. Trogdon said he struggles everyday since the loss of his sons.

"I don't know if I can sum up the words how much I miss them. I mean it's a daily thing, I think about them. They were good little boys, and sweet boys, always wanting to help people out," said Trogdon.
