Ask The Mayor: Lexington's Newell Clark

The Good Morning Show is all about giving you the chance to hear directly from your elected officials.

And this morning we're joined by Lexington mayor Newell Clark for an Ask the Mayor segment. Many people know Lexington for the barbecue, but they may not know much about the city! What should they know? Mayor Clark said Lexington is one of the best kept secrets in the Triad! He said it rivals anywhere in the state. He said they just had a ribbon cutting on their first micro brewery Bull City Ciderworks this weekend. He said they're also building an amphitheatre by the end of the fall, and he said everything they're doing is to benefit the Triad as a whole.

Mayor Clark is originally from Lexington and was the youngest mayor in the city's history when he got elected in 2011. He's now in his third term. One of the things he's done in his time in office is the mayor's summit.
He said he thinks we can all learn from each other, at any level. He said two years ago he invited all the mayors of all the county seats and had 100% participation. He said as a region, the Triad can be stronger from an economic standpoint by working to enhance each other.

Mayor Clark also answered a viewer question from David who asked: What are the plans to attract new business and revitalize old manufacturing buildings? Mayor Clark said they put together a strategic plan led by the citizens so they can ensure that what happens is what citizens want to see. He said the citizens helped them format a 10-year-plan and they're executing that plan. Note: Mayor Clark talks more specifically about certain elements of the plan in the web extras below.

There were also several viewer questions he didn't get to answer on air, including questions about entertainment for young people and the possibility of a Chick-Fil-A in Lexington! Check out the questions and answers below!
