WELCOME, N.C. – The 34th Annual Barbecue Festival in Lexington is just one month away, and festival organizers hosted sponsors and special members of the community to get a sneak peak of what to expect at this year’s event.
It was a full house at the RCR Auditorium, as everyone gathered to learn the music lineup, special events, and the unveiling of this year’s ‘Fine Swine Wine’ by Childress Vineyards.
But first, a barbecue lunch was in place for the guests. Local restaurants pitched in different parts of the meal such as the pig itself, coleslaw, creamy potato salad, bacon baked beans and some warm and crispy hush puppies.
Among the novelties this year’s festival will bring, a ‘Pre-Pig Shindig’ hosted at Childress Vineyards, a blood drive in honor of Bob Timberlake at the Young YMCA to help victims of Irma and Maria, a firework show to end the big day at the Breeden Amphitheatre, and even a cornhole fundraiser for a new K-9 for the Lexington Police Department.
Richard Childress and his Childress Vineyards team unveiled this year’s Fine Swine Wine, Gold Pig, a sweet and fruity wine made specially to pig-out on some good Lexington barbecue.
The Festival music lineup includes hit country names such as Chase Bryant, Russell Dickerson and RaeLynn.
