Ghost Stories From A Greensboro Hotel

Chilton's Selfie Check in: Biltmore Hotel Ghosts

Every Halloween people flock to the historic Biltmore Hotel in downtown Greensboro looking for ghosts. This hotel was the original office for The Cone Brothers in the early 1900's.

Room 32 has a riveting story behind it. . If you stay there you might come face-to-face with Philip.  Philip was an accountant for the Cone brothers but was later found dead on the sidewalk, surrounded by broken glass from a three story fall presumably out of the window in that room.

Police discovered Philip was embezzling and assumed he committed suicide.

But after further examination found that his throat had been cut.  His death is still a mystery but employees and guests have seen him staring out the window near his room.  They say he always wears a bowler hat and is quite tall.

The Biltmore was a well known brothel during WWII.  The downtown trolley went right by the Biltmore Hotel, which was the red-light district. Lydia was a prostitute that was pushed to her death down the stairs at the hotel.
Visitors say she frequents the stairs as well as the elevator.  She is known to love water as well.  Some say she will turn the water on at random times as well.

Guests even leave her gifts in her room as a peace offering.  Once a lady tried to TAKE one of her gifts and found herself locked in the room for 2-and-a-half hours until a locksmith could take the doorknob off.

If you want to check this out for yourself you can visit The Biltmore Hotel at 111 West Washington St. in downtown Greensboro or give them a call at (336) 272-3474. You can also visit them on the web at thebiltmoregreensboro.com
