GREENSBORO, N.C. - Greensboro fought hunger one step at a time on Sunday.
The city hosted the 37th annual Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk.
WFMY News 2 Meteorologist Terran Kirksey emceed the event.
The 5K community event raised funds to provide food and water to the needy and WFMY News 2 is a proud sponsor.
Since 1981, Greensboro Urban Ministry and Church World Service have partnered with the community to present the walk.
The Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk is the second largest CROP event in the nation, attracting more than 4,000 walkers each year.
So far, the walk has raised more than $5 million to fight hunger.
25% of the funds raised through the local walk go to Potter's House Community Kitchen at Greensboro Urban Ministry, which serves a hot meal to 400-500 people every day.
Church World Service support goes to fund nutrition, education, and agriculture programs around the world.
