HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The City of High Point picked a builder for its new multi-use stadium downtown.
The selection committee chose Samet Corporation to lead the design build team.
You’ve likely already seen some of the contractor’s work - the company also built BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem and First National Bank Field in Greensboro.
The nonprofit "forward High Point" worked with City Council on the plan for the $30 million stadium.
The stadium would be bordered by Elm, Gatewood, Lindsay, and English Streets.
It's expected to host baseball, concerts, festivals, and other sports.
The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball committed to bringing a baseball team once the stadium is built.
The city says the stadium is an important step in revitalizing the downtown area.
Construction could start as early as this fall, and the stadium could be ready by the beginning of the 2019 baseball season.
