New Autism Clinic Breaks Ground In Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - An expansion is in the works for ABC of NC's Autism Clinic!

The new clinic will be an added 26,000 square feet to its current campus at 905 Friedberg Church Road.

Funded by ABC of NC's Hello World capital campaign, the new clinic will house diagnostic, therapeutic, and behavioral services for hundreds of children with autism in the area.

This expansion also means shorter wait times for diagnosis, more availability for interventions for all agrees, and greater access to transition service for teens and young adults on the spectrum

The new building won't only benefit the autism community, it will also create more jobs!

“Like communities across the country, we have seen a surge in demand for autism programming fueled by rising prevalence – estimated at one in 58 children in NC – and more readily accessible funding for autism services through private health insurance and Medicaid,” said Selene Johnson, ABC of NC’s executive director.

ABC of NC's Hello World campaign has funded more than $4.2 million for the building, and the community has pitched in as well.

According to a release, donations came from BB&T Foundation, Cannon Foundation, First Tennessee Foundation, the Golden LEAF Foundation, Reynolds American Foundation, Richard J. Reynolds, III and Marie M. Reynolds Foundation, Wake Forest Baptist Health, and The Winston-Salem Foundation.

“Short of the organization's founding, there is no more exciting time to be involved in the life of ABC of NC,” said John Burress, ABC of NC board member and co-chair of the Hello World campaign committee. “This project draws upon the generosity of the entire community and firmly establishes ABC of NC as not just a local leader in autism services, but a player at the state and national levels.”

When it is done, the clinic plans to serve around 700 children annually.
