Time Capsules Buried In Greensboro Won't Be Unearthed For Nearly 100 Years.

Time Capsules Buried At The Greensboro Police Dept. The Items won't be unearthed for 100 yrs

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Two time capsules now buried at the Greensboro Police Department will one day tell the story of the current time and culture of 2017.

You couldn’t help but get chills while watching history in the making as the time capsules were buried outside of the Greensboro Police Department. The time capsules won’t be opened for at least 100 years.

One of the time capsules contains memorabilia that reflects the current cultural climate of police and community relations. Items in the first time capsule include: art, photos, letters, and newspapers. The second time capsule includes: a body worn camera, badge, patch, photos, CSI items, and a letter from Chief Scott. The time capsule also includes an item featuring WFMY News 2!

Chief Wayne Scott said, “Through the objects placed in these time capsules, we are sending messages to future generations about how our officers and our profession were perceived during this time in our city’s history.”

He also said, “Every object in the time capsule will tell a story. Collectively, those stories will provide an emotional context for what it was like to be an officer and a community member in Greensboro.”

The ceremony was all part of the Greensboro Police Department’s grand re-opening of its headquarters.

Both of the capsules will be opened on May 15, 2117 on National Peace Officer’s Day.

Steve Blackwell with Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home and Cremation Service helped to make it all possible. He worked with the Wilbert Vault Company of Greensboro to get the engraved time capsules donated.

The time capsule will also be registered with the International Time Capsule Society.
