7-Year-Old Girl, Grandma Hit In NC Drive-By Shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WCNC) -- A 7-year-old girl and her grandmother are victims of a drive-by shooting in east Charlotte.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. at Valley View Apartments on Hickory Valley Court.

Police say this was not a random act of violence and the suspect specifically targeted that apartment.

The person fired about five shots into the first floor unit's window before fleeing the scene.

No arrests have been made but police and the victims believe they know who did this.

The girl's aunt talked to NBC Charlotte. "I was in bed, and then I heard the shots. I jumped up, and my mom was running out of a room and I was running out of my room, and we met in the hallway. And I just saw the blood. She was screaming," the woman said. "You're cowards. Innocent children involved. Innocent people involved that have nothing to do with this."

The Shamrock Elementary student and her grandmother, 59, were transported to the hospital. Both are expected to recover.
