The suspect is described as "possibly of middle eastern decent," wearing a blue shirt and a red beanie. He was also described as 5-foot-8 and weighs between 150 to 170 pounds.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating an attempted kidnapping near southeast Charlotte Saturday night.

CMPD responded to a call of an attempted kidnapping on Briar Creek Road at the Southern Christmas show around 7:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers were told an 11-year-old girl was walking with her family when a man approached her and tried to walk off with her.

As witnesses approached the man, the man released his grip on the child and fled the area, CMPD said. The child was not injured during the incident.

Ameran Hill was working the show. She said it hit too close since she has an 11-year-old niece.

"You're supposed to be able to come and have a good time with your family and not be worried that somebody is going to try to take your child, your niece or your godkid," she said.

The suspect is described as "possibly of middle eastern decent," wearing a blue shirt and a red beanie. He was also described as 5-foot-8 and weighs between 150 to 170 pounds.

He was accompanied by a woman of possibly middle eastern decent, pushing a stroller, CMPD said.

Anyone with information on the suspects or the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
