Break-in Suspect Shoots at Winston-Salem Officers During Foot Chase: Police

Break-in Suspect Shoots at Winston-Salem Officer

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police say a home break-in suspect fired a gun at officers during a foot chase Sunday morning.

Lt. Eric Montgomery says officers responded to a home on Ansonia Street shortly before 10 a.m. The caller advised two men were breaking into the house.

When officers arrived, they tried to confront the men, and the men took off on foot.

During the chase, one of the suspects fired a gunshot at the officers in the vicinity of the 2300 block of Manchester Street. Lt. Montgomery says no officers were hit, and the officers did not return fire.

The officers eventually lost sight of the suspects, but police say they were able to determine that one of the suspects tried to enter a home in the 2100 block of E. 23rd Street. Police say the people who live in that home did not let the suspect in, and the suspect ran away from the area.

No arrests have been made. The police believe the suspects live in the area.

If you have information that can help police, call Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800.
