Busted: Alamance Co. Deputies Set Up Child Sex Sting Using Social Media

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. -- A North Carolina man thought he was meeting a 13-year-old girl for sex, but it turned out to be Alamance County Sheriff's Deputies busting him.

26-year-old Anthony Shawn Cardwell of Catawba was charged with Solicitation of a Child by Computer for a Sex Act and Appearing on Location.

The Alamance County Sheriff's Office and the NC Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force set up the sting using social media.

Deputies say Cardwell asked an undercover detective for sexual acts, while the detective pretended to be a 13-year-old girl online.

Cardwell was arrested in the parking lot of Neal Auction Company in Newton, NC, where he thought he was meeting up with the teen, but instead was met by deputies.

Cardwell is in jail on a $150,000 secured bond.
