Durham Mom Indicted For Son's Shooting Death

DURHAM, N.C.-- A grand jury has handed up indictments charging a Durham woman with manslaughter, felony child abuse and other misdemeanors in the April shooting death of her 9-year-old son. A statement from the Durham Police Department says 36-year-old Amy Suzanne Pittman was indicted for voluntary manslaughter, felony child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and failure to store firearms to protect minors.

Police say officers were dispatched to shooting call at a home on April 28. When they arrived, they found her 9-year-old son dead of a gunshot wound. Investigators determined that the shooting was an accident.

Three children were in the home when the shooting occurred, but Amy Pittman was not there.Pittman is being held under a $151,000 bond. It's not known if she has an attorney.
