WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- A former Lowrance Middle School assistant teacher pleaded guilty to multiple charges of sexually assaulting a handicapped student.
The Winston-Salem Police Department started to investigate in March of 2015, after a school resource officer was contacted by Atkins High School to look into complaints. Atkins High School officials reported Patrick Nolan, 63, inappropriately touched a 15-year-old, developmentally delayed student in his class.
On Thursday Nolan faced two separate cases in court, pleading guilty to both. Nolan is now guilty of two counts of Indecent Liberties With a Child and one count of Indecent Liberties with a Student for the first case.
For the second case he is guilty of one count of Indecent Liberties With a Student and two counts of misdemeanor Assault on a Handicapped Person.
Nolan now has to register as a sex offender.
He will serve 30 days in jail and then will be on probation for 32 months. If Nolan violates his probation in those 32 months he could face additional jail time.
