Former Triad Teacher Accused Of Sexual Activity With Student

MEBANE, N.C. -- A former Eastern Guilford High School teacher was arrested Friday after police say he was involved in sexual activity with a student.

Officers with Mebane Police say they arrested Dustin Graham Branch, who taught math, after they were notified by the Guilford County Sheriff's Office of an alleged incident that happened at his home in Mebane. Police say the female student, who is now 18, was 17 years old when the alleged incident happened.

School officials sent a statement saying, "We are deeply disappointed by this situation and we are very concerned for everyone involved, particularly the victim and the victim's family. We have a great team of educators and staff at Eastern High, and they are doing everything they can to support our students and parents during this difficult time."

Branch resigned from Eastern Guilford the day before his arrest, Guilford County school officials said. Branch taught at the school for about two years.

Branch is facing charges of Sexual Offense with a Student and Criminal Use of a Trademark.

During the course of the investigation, police say they conducted numerous interviews and searched Branch's home.

GCS says it conducts a national background check before an employee is hired and then a statewide background check every night after an employee is hired.

Branch is in Orange County Jail and is under a $5,000.00 bond. Anyone with information is asked to call the Mebane Police Department at (919) 563-9031 or Alamance County Crime Stoppers at (336) 229-7100.
