WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- A Winston-Salem man was shot after threatening officers with a gun Saturday night.
According to police, Kara Bessinger called 911 saying the father of her child, Marshall Allen Wiggins, was drunk, armed with a shotgun, and threatening to commit suicide.
Wiggins also said that if any officers came to the house he would hurt them.
Minutes later police got to the scene and started to set a perimeter around the house as Wiggins continued to make threats against them.
Police said that Wiggins then opened the garage door and was pointing a shotgun at the officers.
An officer of the scene, Officer King, shot Wiggins in response to the threat.
Wiggins was taken to Baptist Medical Center where he is in serious, but stable condition. No one else at the scene was injured.
An investigation is being done by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. The assault was taped on 3 different body cameras and investigators said Wiggins did attempt to assault Officer King.
Warrants are now out for Wiggins arrest for an assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer as well as other charges.
King has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
