CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Charlotte mom is behind bars while her kids receive treatment at the hospital after being left in a car.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to the Walmart in the 7700 block of North Tryon around 5:15 Monday evening after receiving reports of children being left behind in a car in the parking lot.
Police say Janeth Trejo, 31, left her 7-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son in her car without the engine running.
The weather was sunny with an air temperature between 88 and 92 degrees.
Both children were taken to University Hospital for treatment; police did not comment on their current condition.
Trejo is charged with one count of child abuse. Her bond was set at $5000.
Police did not say how long the kids were in the car.
