Arrest Made in Greensboro Waffle House Parking Lot Murder: Police

Police say a fight broke out inside the restaurant on, Randleman Rd, between several people and spilled out into the parking lot before a gun was fired. The person was pronounced dead moments after police arrived. 

GREENSBORO - A person was shot and killed at a Waffle House on Randleman Road around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday according to Greensboro police. 

Greensboro Police have identified the victim of the fatal shooting as Tony Ray Battle. Greensboro police say Battle worked at a different Waffle House on Gate City Blvd. On Tuesday, he was just a customer.

UPDATE: Wednesday morning Greensboro police announced the arrest of 23-year-old Demauri Jamice Wellington in Battle's murder. Wellington is charged with First Degree Murder. Police say Wellington was arrested after a foot chase, shortly after the shooting early Tuesday morning.

What police say happened

Police responded to a call at the Waffle House restaurant on the 2500 block of Randleman Road near Teague Street, around 3:28a, after hearing a gun was fired. Officers found one victim had been shot in the parking lot.

Several of the people involved in the fight then began shooting at each other.

Battle died moments after police arrived after being struck by several bullets.

No one else has been reported as injured.
