Police: Suspect Got Out Of Handcuffs, Jumped From Ambulance

Columbia, SC-- Columbia police say a suspect being taken to the hospital somehow managed to get out of his handcuffs and jumped out of an ambulance.

Officers say around 11 a.m Monday., the staff at the Econo Lodge on Fort Jackson Boulevard called police saying 21-year-old Charles Haywood Frazier was being disorderly. When officers came to arrest him, they noticed he had a medical problem and called paramedics to take him to the hospital.

As he was being transported, though, police say he got out of his handcuffs and jumped out of the vehicle in the area around Millwood Avenue and House Street. Police were able to find him a short time later on Gervais Street.

Officers personally took him to the hospital this time, and say he'll be transported to the jail when he's better.

Frazier faces multiple charges in connection with the incident because officers say he exposed himself to them and spit on an officer during the arrest.
