Sheriff: Caller Impersonating Officer To Get Your Money

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- Detectives with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office are investigating reports of someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer.

The sheriff's office has received at least six complaints about an individual claiming to be Lt. G. Wood with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office Warrants Division.

Investigators say the person is telling potential victims that the sheriff's office has warrants for their arrest, which can be taken care of by obtaining a prepaid credit card. The caller then asks the person to call him back with the number of the card so he can receive the money from the card.

The sheriff's office said be warned that this is fraudulent activity, because it does not call people over the phone to solicit any type of money or payments from people who may have warrants on them.

Investigators are asking for anyone who receives any calls like this to please contact the Davidson County Sheriff's Office at (336) 242-2105.
