13-Year-old and Her Infant Son Missing, Stepfather Charged: Police

The Madison County Sheriff says Katherine Derleth and her 17-day-old son went missing sometime Sunday morning.

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Charges have been filed against the stepfather of a missing 13-year-old girl and her 2-week-old son.

According to a LEAP alert from the Madison County Sheriff's Office, Katherine and Christopher Ray Derleth went missing early Sunday morning out of Edwardsville, Illinois. Police believe they are traveling with Christopher M. Derleth, the stepfather of Katherine.

Derleth has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and child abduction. A nationwide warrant for his arrest has been issued. He faces up to 30 years behind bars and bond has been set at $200,000.


Police said they may be headed for West Virginia in a green 1997 Mercury Villager minivan with Illinois License Plate E833201.

An AMBER Alert is being issued in the state of West Virginia for both children.

Katherine, 13, is described as a 4-foot-8, 95-pound girl with brown hair and brown eyes. She has three birthmarks on her right knee. Christopher Ray, 2-weeks, is described as a 1-foot-9, 8-pound baby boy with brown hair and unknown eye color.

The step-father, 39, is a 6-foot-1, 160-pound man with brown hair and hazel eyes.
