Two North Carolina men were arrested Thursday and charged with hacking the computer systems of multiple U.S. Government officials and government systems.
Andrew Otto Boggs of North Wilkesboro and Justin Gray Liverman of Morehead City conspired with a hacking group to gain access to confidential information for several senior U.S. government officials. According to documents from the Department of Justice, members of the 'Crackas With Attitude' group used 'social engineering' hacking techniques from October 2015 to February 2016 that included impersonating their victims.
Two 17-year old males and a 15-year old male were part of the group as well. The release states Liverman is 24 and Boggs is 22. The members uploaded private information from victims' personal accounts, made harassing phone calls and defaced social media accounts.
In January, one of the group members made a false bomb threat to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Boggs and Liverman will have their initial appearances at the federal courthouse in Alexandria, Va. next week.
