Va. Woman Charged With Drowning Baby Found Dead in Duffle Bag in 2016

DANVILLE, VA.-- A woman in Danville is facing murder charges in the death of an infant found in a duffle bag in 2016.

Vanessa Danielle Poteat was arrested Monday, more than a year after someone found the infant's remains inside a duffle bag at a house on Schoolfield Dr. Officers started the investigation on June 12, 2016.  

Poteat, 25, has been charged with First-Degree Murder in the drowning death of her child. She's currently in the Danville City Jail with no bond. 

The investigation is still active, Danville police said.
