A woman was waiting at a MARTA bus stop in southwest Atlanta when a car jumped the curb and slammed into her. Police say the woman was pushed off the sidewalk, down a hill, and into a building. She died at the scene.
The 20-year-old driver, identified by police as "Ms. Ahmed", was driving a 2006 Honda Civic when she approached a stop sign. A witness told police she swerved to the left and up onto the sidewalk just before the collision.
After striking the woman, the car crashed into a tree and then a porch. The driver was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Police are still investigating what caused her to jump the curb, but said "charges are anticipated".
Investigators are working to locate the family of the victim before releasing her identity. She is said to be in her 50s.
