Danville School Board Chairwoman Charged Attempted Grand Larceny

DANVILLE, Va. -- The Danville City School Board Chairwoman is facing felony charges, according to court records. 

Sharon Dones is charged with felony attempted grand larceny and two counts of felony uttering forged receipts - which is the passing of forged documents with the intent to defraud. 

Steven Gould, Danville School Board Vice Chairman, released the following statement: 

The Danville School Board is committed to transparency and honesty as we serve our schools, families and community. For this reason, I am sharing the news that Sharon Dones, the School Board Chairman, was charged with Attempted Grand Larceny and two charges of Uttering Forged Receipts by the Commonwealth’s Attorney today as a result of an investigation led by its office.
 
I want to assure our employees, families and community that the work of the Danville School Board will continue to be focused on supporting student achievement, as always. Please note that since this is an ongoing legal matter, information will be limited until the legal process is completed.
