ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- In a Monday night meeting, the Rockingham County Board of Education approved a 2018-19 redistricting plan that will reassign Draper Elementary students to two new schools.
According to the board, Draper Elementary students will be reassigned to Central Elementary and Lincoln Elementary.
The board also approved for New Vision School of Math, Science, and Technology to operate two school calendars at the Dillard Elementary School site.
RCS says New Vision will continue to be a year-round school. Dillard Elementary students will stay at the school on a traditional calendar within New Vision's school program.
In November, the school board voted to close Dillard Elementary and Draper Elementary. Superintendent Rodney Shotwell says both schools were operating at about 45 percent capacity. He says the district will save more than $500,000 yearly by closing the schools.
