New Drug Can Help Your Severe Asthma

If you have severe asthma there may be a drug that can help you breathe easy.

According to the CDC, a new drug benralizumab has the potential to help people with severe asthma.

The drug was tested on over 1,200 people in 17 countries, and had positive outcomes.

“Our results showed that benralizumab significantly reduced exacerbations and improved lung function with an acceptable safety profile for patients with severe uncontrolled asthma with eosinophilia,” said the study’s lead author, Eugene R. Bleecker, M.D., director of the Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine Research at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

In the study researchers found using benralizumab made symptoms of asthma better by 51 percent and improved lung function.

“These findings indicate that the clinical benefit obtained from benralizumab translates into better asthma control and improved quality of life,” Bleecker said.

The study also said that it is not effective for everyone with asthma. Some people can see their conditions get worse and can cause serious side-effects.
