Back To The Grind Crock Pot Recipe: Korean Barbecue

GREENSBORO, NC -- Barbecue is a North Carolina staple. But today, 2 Wants to Know and Whole Foods have a recipe that'll help you do barbecue a little differently. It's all part of our effort to help you get back to the grind of making dinner while saving cash and calories.

Christine Gillies with Whole Foods walked us through how to make Korean barbecue in your crock pot! Christine said, "Korean barbecue is starting to get really popular and really trendy. A lot of people don't know if they can make it at home and this is a really great simple way to have an exotic meal at home."


  • 2 lbs Skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 Onion
  • Korean barbecue sauce
  • Lettuce leaves


  • Carrots
  • Cucumber
  • Siracha
  • Diced green onions


Slice the white onions. Put the onion, chicken thighs, and entire bottle of Korean barbecue sauce in the crock pot. Gillies said chicken thighs are your best option for this kind of recipe. "Because it is a dark meat, it's not going to dry out when you cook it for eight hours. It just gets nice and tender and really juicy."

Cut up the toppings. Serve the chicken and toppings on the lettuce leaves. If you prefer using a tortilla, that works as well.

Cost benefit! Chicken thighs are much cheaper than breast meat and the Whole Foods Korean barbecue sauce is under $3.
