College students and high school seniors are prime targets for ID thieves and scammers.
It's not that the student is doing anything wrong. It's because students don't check their credit.
You might've drilled into your student's head not to open any credit cards, but make sure you're also telling them to shred those credit card applications.
Here's more adulting for them: every year, students can get a free copy of their credit report from each credit reporting company -- Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. They should spread out those reports through the year to make sure no one is opening up credit in their name.
