Data Breach? Want To Be Proactive? Do THIS.

Know When To Freeze Your Credit

GREENSBORO, NC -- It's not “if” it’s when it happens. That’s right. Your card, my card will be compromised at some point. (And that is IF it hasn’t happened already)

For example, Chipotle released its list of locations where credit card data was compromised. There are 8 in our area: Greensboro, Winston Salem, High Point, Kernersville and one in Boone.
So, when this happens to you, there's a checklist:

*Call your company or bank immediately so you can either put a fraud alert on your account or cancel your card.

*Put a credit freeze on your credit report. You contact the credit bureaus to do this-- Experian, Trans Union or Equifax. For 90 days, no one can open credit in your name.

*Check your credit report through AnnualCreditReport.com.  This is something everyone should do, no matter if they're in a credit breach problem or not. You get a free report from each of the bureaus each year. To make the most of them, spread them out. Get Experian’s freebie this month, Trans Union’s in four months and Equifax’s freebie four months after that.
