Did You Get A Scheme Call, Text, Letter, Check, Email? Make A Formal Complaint!

GREENSBORO, NC -- Chances are you're going to be a target of a scheme if you haven't been already. It doesn't mean you'll fall for it, but you'll be a target. A viewer sent us an email about a scheme call and wanted us to warn you about it. Which is what 2WTK does. But we wanted to take it a step further because we not only want you to recognize a scheme but know who to contact when you get a call, letter, email, text or check.

The viewer says the caller claims to "WORK FOR A COMPANY CALLED MEGA MILLION LOTTERY COMPANY. ALL I HAD TO DO WAS PURCHASE A 4-DOLLAR GREEN DOT MONEY CARD." The caller told our viewer to get the card at a nearby CVS. So the viewer went to CVS and a worker told her several people came in asking about the green dot card after getting a call.

It's a scheme. Consider yourself warned. Number one: don't cash the check, don't wire money, don't give out ANY information over the phone. If you won money in a legitimate lottery you won't have to pay fees.

Number two: tell someone. Make a formal complaint with the NC Attorney General's office. You can call them too at 1-877-5-NO-SCAM. Whether it's a call, a letter, email or text the office keeps track of scheme trends.

So does the Federal Trade Commission and U.S. Postal Inspectors.
