Discarded Water Bottles At Grasshoppers Games Are Turned Into Shirts

GREENSBORO, NC -- The Greensboro Grasshoppers team colors are orange and green and the franchise is making efforts to "go green" and fans are involved!

When you discard your water bottle at the stadium, you have the chance to win the bottles back in the form of a t-shirt. It takes two bottles to make one shirt. A company called Repreve makes it happen.

It starts with bits of bottles all broken up.Then the bottles are ground, chopped, melted and reformulated into these chips.those spools are then used to make the make the t-shirts. Those chips are then put into a spinning process and it eventually makes a thread wound onto a spool.

Repreve will use the bottles from every Saturday night home game to make special Grasshopper shirts. They're estimating they will recycle more than 1,000 bottles this season. And to educate fans, they're doing two things. The first is a video that will play on the big screen. We have a sneak preview of it, check it out.

The video shows what happens when you recycle a bottle. It goes to the Repreve factory and they turn into cool stuff you can wear everyday (like the t-shirt you can win when you come to see the Grasshoppers play at New Bridge Bank Park).

The second is the shirt giveaway! 50 shirts will be given out every Saturday night to go along with the video. They won't just hand them out, they shoot them out with a t-shirt gun.

You can buy hats, shirts and socks made by Repreve online. But you can't buy the Grasshoppers Repreve shirt online. You need to be at the game!
