Doorbell Could Help You Catch Front Porch Thieves

Know Who's Knocking At Your Door?

A Killeen woman is trying to catch the thief who stole two Amazon packages off her porch Tuesday afternoon. And, the whole thing was caught on camera.

At 1:33 p.m., UPS delivered the packages to Sheryl Remick's home on Levy Lane in Killeen. Just minutes later -- at 1:49 p.m. -- a white woman who appeared to be in her 30s stole them in broad daylight. The suspect had long, bleached blond hair and dark rimmed glasses.

Home surveillance footage of the theft was crystal clear. That's because Remick installed the Ring Doorbell, which includes a high-quality camera, after another package was stolen in November. Remick said the last package was a slow-cooker worth more than $100 -- something she planned to give as a gift. Tuesday's packages were worth about $60 and included electric toothbrush parts and vitamins.

"Just the nerve of people doing this to people who work hard and can't sit at home all day to wait for their packages," Remick told Channel Six. "This just made me so mad because it's not the first time."

Remick gave the video to Killeen Police, who told her they would investigate. She believes the suspect either lives nearby or follows postal workers around and steals the packages they drop off.

After spending 37 years as a civilian working for the Army, Remick retired on April 1. She said she would keep her eye out for the thief and hopes somebody might recognize the woman in the video.
